Prezi or Powerpoint…which one?

When should you use Prezi over Powerpoint for your presentations?

For those that aren’t familiar with Prezi, Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software and storytelling tool for exploring and sharing ideas on a virtual canvas. Prezi uses a Zooming User Interface (ZUI), which enables users to zoom in and out of their presentation media. Text, images, videos and other presentation media are placed upon the canvas, and can be grouped together in frames.
Users then designate the relative size and position between all presentation objects and may pan and zoom in and between these objects. For linear presentations, users can construct a prescribed navigation path.

Prezi uses a completely different interface and because it’s cloud based, the viewing and sharing options are very helpful when collaborating on a project.

Here’s a great comparison chart: http://ltlatnd.wordpress.com/2011/03/22/comparison-chart-powerpoint-and-prezi/

Powerpoint’s linear navigation feels static by comparison to the innovating navigational capabilities of Prezi.  Prezi is much more Mac friendly when it comes to using certain media/animation files so that’s definitely a bonus for those of us that are Mac users.

I definitely recommend Prezi over Powerpoint. When using professional graphics and minimal ‘dizzying’ effects, Prezi can dazzle your audience.  Explore Prezi…it’s easy to learn, there’s even a Prezi app for your iPad.  You’ll enjoy the experience I’m sure of it.
